From engineering idea to implementation

Black Sea, Russia

Wood Beton built a bridge with a single span of 82 meters, on the Black Sea: the bridge is not only pedestrian but also vehicle access.

The real difficulty was the construction phase: it wasn’t possible to work on one of the two sides connected to the bridge, so for the launch phase it was necessary to invent something risky. The idea: to build the bridge in vertical position, as a tower, and then rotate it 90° to the opposite side. The bridge’s structure brought to the building site in segments: on the ground were assembled 7 three-dimensional blocks, then they assembled one on top of the other, starting from the steel hinge on which the bridge was rotated, which occurred through the use of special winches.
The bridge built in two months and a global design was needed: Wood Beton has handled not only the dimensioning of the bridge, but also of the foundations and temporary trusses.
